The company was founded in the early 1920s. It was a company that originally made clocks and watches. Ambassadeur Abu Garcia Fishing Reels

There are few fishing related products that have lasted through the test of time relatively unchanged like Ambassadeur Abu Garcia fishing reels.

Manufacturers are constantly releasing the latest and greatest fishing products targeted towards anglers to “solve all their problems and help them catch more fish” and are constantly making major modification to their existing fishing products to make them more marketable.

Through the years, products like the flying lure, the pocket fisherman and many others have “hooked anglers” over the years but this has never been the case for the Ambassadeur Abu Garcia fishing reels.

The Abu Garcia company was founded in 1921 in Sweden and was originally a Swiss watch factory. The owners son was an avid angler and started research and development into the fishing reel line which was first released in 1941 under the name Abu Garcia Record.

In 1952 the company released the Ambassadeur Abu Garcia, and the rest is history.

Now, almost seventy years later the company still manufactures and sells the world famous reel with relatively limited modifications from the original product line. While there have been minor modification and improvements with materials and components for the most part the current reel is relatively the same as the original model.

Someone looking at the original model from 1951 and a current version of the product would be able to easily identify that it was the same product.

The company has continued to release variations of the original reel throughout the years with additional enhancements and modification but all based on the original shell and model.

Common modifications and improvements include:

Improved drag washers
Additional bearings
Thumb bars instead of push button line releases
No slip spools
Variations in color
Variations in gearing

Tips on Lake Fishing.

Tips on Lake Fishing.

Article by Owen Jones

Lake fishing is fairly similar to river fishing, or slow-flowing river fishing at any rate. The species of fish in rivers and lakes tend to be the same, which means that the tackle, bait and lures will be the identical too, although you may want a longer pole, say, a beach-casting rod to cast your bait farther out into the lake. Lake fish will regularly grow to a bigger size than river fish, so your line should be stronger too.

Lake fish traditionally been classified under three general headings. To be exact, game fish, food fish, and bait fish. Bass, trout, pike, pickerel, muskellunge, perch, etc., are recognized as game fish because of their sporting value. Carp, suckers, some of the catfish, yellow perch, etc., are considered food fish.

This second group is not though to provide the sport that the so-called game fish do, but they do have a real monetary and recreational value. The third kind are the minnows and tiddlers that can be used as bait for the first two classes.

It is not simple to explain the exact technique to cast long distances, but it does come nuturally to rather a lot of anglers. However, if casting does not come naturally to you, you will need to analyze other lake or beach anglers. If you are not happy doing that, you will be able to find a video on the subject. However, the best means to learn how to cast is to go down to the beach, watch an expert at work and attempt to do likewise.

Nevertheless, lake fishing is enormous fun and the learner will rapidly learn the right method of lake fishing. Therefore, I have placed a few handy guidelines here to help you master lake fishing more rapidly.

i]. Aim to take up a smooth, whip-like cast. Nevertheless, if you crack the whip too hard, you will certainly shake off a great deal of bait, flies or lures..

ii]. Timing is the all-important issue in both the back cast and forward cast.

iii]. Study the lifestyle of the fish that dwell in the lake that you plan to fish. All fish have both similar and dissimilar ways of life, so either obtain a book or video or join a club to find out more.

iv]. Most fish prefer some type of cover, either for themselves or because their quarry will like it there. Be careful of weeds, reeds and submerged logs or you will lose heaps of line and tackle..

v]. The same as I mentioned previously, lake fish have a propensity to be bigger, as food is abundant and there is heaps of room. A big bass, for instance, could easily weigh 10-12 lbs, so make sure that your rod and line are up to the task. A rod of seven feet six inches to eight feet in length can withstand these sizes of fish.

Lake fishing is not so truly unusual from other types of fishing, so if you put some effort into learning the techniques and fish involved in lake fishing, you will soon master the art and become an expert at lake fishing.

White River Trout Fishing-The Ultimate Fishing Experience

White River Trout Fishing-The Ultimate Fishing Experience

The white river is quite an attraction for various outdoor activities. It stretches a full 720 miles with a lot of transformations before ending up in the Mississippi river. The best attraction however is the white river trout fishing habitat that is created by the dam (Bull Shoals) and is one of the most visited destinations in the state and the country. Arkansas is actually considered to be the trout capital of the USA.

White river trout fishing is a magical experience. The scenery that surrounds the white river is quite spectacular and could be a distraction to many a fisherman. There are lots of wildlife, densely forested hillsides, and wild flowers among other breathtaking views. Apart from the disruptions occasioned by the 8 dams, these scintillating scenes are present throughout its 720-mile journey into the Mississippi river. The water is so clear that in the words of a famous explorer, “our canoe seemed like it was floating on air, such is the remarkable transparency of the water.” This is in addition to the vast resorts and fishing clubs that have come up along the river. These offer all the necessary equipment like river boats, fishing tackles, bait, expert fishing guides, and of course personal service.

]]>

Just after the Bull Shoals dam, the white river plays host to one of the most spectacular fishing habitats anywhere in the world. As a result, there will hardly be a dull moment for anyone taking a fishing expedition at the various white river trout fishing spots. Though other fish are present in this region, trout fish no doubt own the place. Rainbow and brown trout are particularly predominant in this habitat, though brook trout may also be found here but at a lesser frequency. Many of the fishing clubs and resorts have developed entry points to add to the naturally occurring ones. There are also a number of public campgrounds along white river, especially around the Bull Shoals State Park and Bull Shoals Lake.

Many seasoned anglers will readily concur that natural bait works perfectly here. Minnows, crayfish, and any of the spinner baits are highly tipped to snap up some trout. As a matter of fact, white river is home to a good number of trophy trout fish and record shattering catches. Remember Gordon Lackey’s monster 31-pound brown trout in 1972 and Leon Wagoner’s 33-pound monster five years later? Surely, you cannot forget H. Rip Collins 40-pounder that has been the world record for the longest time now! All these were caught in this exact location. Some trophy trout catches are not uncommon in white river and a few monsters occasionally get caught right here at the Bull Shoals trout habitation.

To be able to fish at the white river, anglers are required to have a license if they are older than 16 years. This is according to the Arkansas Game and fish commission. Every angler is limited to only five fish per day and specific regulations apply to selected areas. Ensure you are on the right side of the regulations by getting this information before hand.

At Whiter River, your trout fishing experience is guaranteed to be a great one packed with fun and loads of action.

Why trout are the best freshwater fish to fish for

Why trout are the best freshwater fish to fish for

Source: http://www.helium.com/items/1479785-the-best-freshwater-fish

When considering why trout are the best freshwater fish to fish for, I am reminded of many memories of my life that involve fish and fishing the lakes and rivers of southern British Columbia. Weekends aboard our small outboard boat, mornings spent relaxing on a big rock on the side of a river somewhere with a fishing rod in hand: this is how I grew up. On a quiet afternoon, I still like to sneak away with to spend and hour or two, or a day, on the side of the lake up in the mountains, away from everything.

In our waters, a few different varieties of fish are most prominently found. Common lake trout, brook trout, small and large mouth bass and perch are the most widely found families of fish. Kokanee, salmon, sturgeon and our friendly Ogopogo can also be found to reside in our lakes. However, trout have to be the best fresh water fish to fish for, for many good reasons. I have found that generally, trout tend to be the meatiest fish of them all, bringing them to the top of my “fish to fish for” list!

]]>

The meat of both Perch and bass varies depending on the size of the fish, and how it is fileted and cooked. Both are a fish known to be extremely bony and not the easiest to filet, which makes a boneless filet nearly impossible to cut. Perch and bass are also known to be the largest predators of trout, seeking out their eggs and and destroying hatches. This is one of the largest reasons the lakes in most of the region have to be restocked seasonally.

Another point advancing trout as the one to fish for is that trout are much more versatile in regards to cooking. From barbeque to fire pit to pan, trout can be beautifully and easily finished off with only a few simply ingredients that are usually found in the fridge or cupboard. With a couple of lemon slices, some garlic, and a few dabs of butter, add potatoes and corn, and your trout will quickly simmer into a beautiful meal. In our lakes, trout are usually the larger of the fish you will catch, which always leads to many a good stories over the fresh caught fish and the dinner table. The fight that a trout will give over your fly or lure is much more exciting than our other types of fish here, mainly because of their stamina to keep on fighting.

The best part of all about fishing for trout is, as long as you can see them surfacing, you are guaranteed they will bite at just about anything shiny you throw in the water. For the avid fly fisherman, the family heading out for a Sunday fish, or just you and a couple buddies, nothing beats taking a day or an afternoon to head out to the lake and try you luck with the fish.

Angler – this is another term for you as a fisher. You will use rods and reels that will help you catch these fishes.

Bait or lures – these are the items that will attract fishes on your fish hook. Once they bit this, they will also bite the hook and finally catch them. You have two types of baits or lures. Fly-casting – this is the term used to refer on the fishing technique usually done by fishermen on areas where fishes are held.

Your Trout Fishing Tackle Guide

Your Trout Fishing Tackle Guide

Your Trout Fishing Tackle Guide

Trout fishing tackle refers generally to the various kinds of equipments used in trout fishing. You would need to use the right ones to be able to catch trout. Some examples of trout fishing tackle are waders, traps, gaffs, nets, spears, lures, baits, sinkers, hooks, and lines. The kind of trout fishing tackle you bring to your fishing trip could either help you or frustrate you.

The various kinds of trout fishing tackles are designed according to their respective purposes. You would need the right equipments, the right way, at the right circumstances. The right combination of these would help you catch trout.

One of the most basic is the fishing rod. They come in various designs and materials. A light action rod is what most beginners prefer to use. Using this with a reel combo, one can do a lot of things with them. As to extra light rods, be careful when using them especially when you don’t know how to use it properly. Another consideration in choosing the kind of rod to bring is the place where you want to fish.

]]>

For reels, you can choose from a wide variety of these equipments. You can remain contented with your reliable basic spring and pawl click drag back type. Or you can choose to buy ones that have ball bearings or those with disc crags.

As to the matter of lines, the best choice would be the light ones. Heavy lines would be visible and obvious to the trout living in cold clear waters. You can bring heavier and thick lines or other kinds of lines that you can use if need arises. But, generally, the must have for many trout fishermen is a light line.

For the sake of practicality and effectivity, live baits are your best option for baits. Using gang hooks with live baits would also be a good idea. Presenting the bait with gang hooks has been proven to be effective to catch some trout.

When choosing trout fishing tackle like lures and flies, for starters, keep it simple. The ones that resemble baitfish or the typical trout prey closely, especially those that come in colors white and silver, would be your best choice. But then you can still bring assorted lures and flies because who knows when you may need them.

Another nugget of wisdom you should always bear in mind is that the size of the trout you can catch does not depend on the size of the tackle you used. Even if you use a small tackle, you can still catch some nice-sized trout.

You can also choose to wear a fishing vest and a bait bag instead of using the conventional tackle box. Having your tackle properly organized would save you much time and effort when looking for the right one to use.

When buying trout fishing tackle, or any product for that matter, you should make quality as your prime concern. You might shell out less money when you buy cheap ones but they easily break so you would need to buy another. It would be more practical to buy quality tackles because they last long and they work well. Quality, and not price, determines the durability and performance of your tackle.

Bass Fishing Techniques

Bass Fishing Techniques

Article by Owen Jones

Fishing is a thinking person’s pastime. No matter whether you fish for a hobby, as a sport or for a living, you have to be able to get the better off the fish you are searching for. Not merely that, but unlike most hunters, you cannot see your quarry. You have to work out where it is probably going to be and what it is to be expected to do.

Anglers normally fish alone, so it is not remarkable that each angler has a few of his or own personal techniques and preferences. This goes for any sort of fishing, but it is especially true of some fish. This mostly means the big and the clever (well, for fish) species. One of these clever varieties is the bass.

Bass fishing techniques vary with regard to a number of circumstances including temperature, season and type of water and coast line – whether you are fishing fresh or salt water.

If you are fishing for bass off a boat, then you are probably fishing in deeper water, because bass swim in deeper water while it is cold, so make certain that you have all the safety equipment and that you know how to use it. Furthermore, you must make yourself aware of your country’s or state’s legal requirements.

For example, if you take people out with you, you may have legal responsibilities or there may be seasons in which you may and may not fish. These very from area to area and have to do with spawning and maintaining the amount of stock.

Bass specialists have their own techniques, as was mentioned above, but a lot of bass fishermen recommend fishing at night. This is not a bad notion as there is less chance of getting your line entangled with others, especially if you are fishing off a rock or the shore.

Fishing for bass at night is not a bad system for other reasons as well. Although there are different kinds of bass, most of them are shy and careful, so if they reckon that the water is too clear, they may decide to bottom feed. This is one of the areas where local knowledge and expertise plays a big role.

Bass are cautious predators and also a little work-shy. They prefer to hide themselves somewhere and wait for their victim to pass close by. Therefore, a rocky shoreline is perfect bass fishing territory in the summer months while the bass swim and hunt closer to the surface. In the winter, you will need to fish the bottom water where it is somewhat warmer.

When bottom fishing, bass will be searching for small fish and sand worms, whereas in the summer they are feeding on the top and will not expect to find any worms. Then they will be looking for small fish and insects that have fallen into the water, like flies. Bass are meat eaters, so berries, seeds and bread may not be of much use, but hey, not all fish behave like the text books say that they should!

The thing to keep in mind is that local conditions count and although fishing with a rod and line is necessarily a solitary and quiet sport, particularly in fresh water, fishermen like to socialize afterwards and pass on their knowledge. So, if you are having trouble with catching the fish you are searching for, join a local anglers’ club and mix with the experts.
